Massive Search Underway for Hiker Who’s Been Missing for Weeks

Rescue efforts are ongoing for a missing hiker, Grant Gardner, who hasn’t been seen or heard from in two weeks. Gardner had planned a solo three-day hike in Wyoming to summit Cloud Peak, the highest peak within the Bighorn Mountains. However, after summiting the mountain and contacting his wife on July 29 at about 7 PM, Gardner never returned to his vehicle. No one has heard from him since.

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office posted a missing-person notice on its Facebook page on August 4, and Sheriff Ken Blackburn has been diligent in providing updates since then. The latest update, dated August 11, details the “considerable resources and man power” deployed to search for Gardner in hopes he is still alive.

The search hasn’t been easy. Blackburn wrote: “In addition to high altitude and terrain challenges, difficult weather patterns including winds, thunder and lightning storms have made search efforts difficult at various times of the day.”
