A YouTuber who creates videos about wilderness survival and building structures like log cabins and tree houses recently shared a how-to video on building a secret dugout that even wolves won’t notice. The DIY craftsman and survivalist behind Living Wilderness: Crafts and Skills uploaded a 25-minute minute delving into his process, from selecting the perfect site to actually building the dugout to how he survived there while he observed wildlife from his hidden spot.

The man starts by selecting a tree with a hollowed-out base. He then digs out the dirt around it to make a spot deep enough for him to fit comfortably. He stabilizes the dugout and camouflages it convincingly. Along the way, he builds fires, cooks meals, and even makes the inside of the dugout nice and cozy by adding things like a bench and a small wood-burning heater (with an exhaust pipe leading outside, of course).
Once built, the dugout provides a nice spot for the man to hang out and read while wildlife passes by outside, unsuspecting. It’s pretty interesting to watch!
