Friendly Black Bear Just Wants to Say Hi

When a friendly black bear comes up on a family’s porch in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the women behind the camera aren’t too bothered. It’s a small black bear and, admittedly, it’s really cute, so perhaps it doesn’t seem like much of a threat. The women try to coax the bear off the porch, but it’s hesitant to go. In fact, it won’t go.

The women say things like “Honey, you gotta go” and “Back it up, homie” to the bear, which stares up at them with puppy-dog eyes.

“You shouldn’t be here, turn around, go back,” one person says.

“He smells the bacon,” someone adds.

Throughout the two-minute exchange, the women behind the camera say things like:

“I won’t hurt you, honey. I’ve got nothing for you, honey.”

“Can I touch it?” one woman asks. (Another person firmly says, “No.”)

“Gosh, you’re so cute. I just want to pet your belly.”

“He looks like a sad dog.”

At one point, the bear comes a little too close for comfort and the women scream, which seems to frighten the bear in the right direction. They manage to coerce the bear nearly to the edge of the stairs leading down off the porch when the bear rears up on its hind legs. At this point, the women decide they’ve had enough.

“Ok, get in the house!” one woman says to the others.
