An Alaska man has a special bond with a local moose, which he calls “Lovey.” Dan—akshiloh on Instagram—lives in Alaska, near Mount Spurr, and he’s apparently known Lovey for years. Dan recently posted a video showing Lovey approaching him and his tripod camera in the woods. It seems Lovey just wanted some love. The gentle interaction between the two struck a chord with over a half-million people.

“When filming videos with Lovey the Moose I usually place my camera on a tripod and record us sitting together,” Dan wrote in his Instagram post sharing the video. “Lovey is never concerned about video quality and often ignores the process completely when coming to join me. I [greet] Lovey as she towers over my camera and she clearly seems to appreciate the attention.”
Dan seems to genuinely care about this moose and share a bond with the animal that makes him feel completely safe around her. He does warn his community not to approach a wild moose in hopes they might find their own “Lovey.”
