A wellness influencer has coined the term “fart walk,” and many people are embracing the concept as a way to improve and maintain their health. In short, a fart walk is a walk after dinner. This is a low-impact way to get your body moving and jumpstart the digestion process.

Mairlyn Smith is a self-proclaimed queen of fiber and the #fartwalk™. Smith also authored a book called Peace, Love & Fibre, a collection of fiber-rich recipes. In a viral Instagram Reel, Smith explains the fart-walk concept and notes that it’s something she and her husband do every evening to help them stay healthy.

“Walking after dinner can help reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes,” Smith wrote in her post sharing the video. “The walk can be anywhere between 2-20 minutes ~ it’s the physical action of moving that increases the glucose uptake from your blood into your muscles ~ which reduces how much insulin your body needs to produce. And that can help reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”

Notably, while walking after a meal may encourage your body to release gastric pressure, farting is not actually required. (Anyone else feel relieved by that? Pun intended.)
