‘The Most Alaskan Way to Be Late’—A Moose in the Driveway

“’Sorry I’m going to be late, there’s a moose in my driveway’ is actually a valid excuse here,” wrote Kristen Kupperman in her Instagram post sharing a video of a large moose eating a neighbor’s pumpkin in the driveway. Kupperman says she was safely inside her home when she recorded the moose and inferred she wouldn’t be leaving the house until the massive animal was long gone.

“Whenever people ask if I’m scared of bears in Alaska, I say yes . . but I also say I’m more afraid of moose than bears,” Kupperman wrote in her post. “I’ve seen way more moose than bears in my neighborhood and on trails, and if they feel like you’re too close they will charge you. And as you can see, they’re huge! If you can’t safely make it out to your car, you might as well sit inside and watch the moose eat your neighbor’s pumpkins for 45 minutes while you wait!”

Forty-five minutes is a long time to wait, but have you seen these animals charge? We say good call.
