The last thing one skier expected to happen on his first run of the day at Keystone Resort was to have to dodge a black bear running right at him. The Colorado resort is nestled in a wilderness area, and while it is bear territory, the skier, Brian O’Neal, told local news that he’s never had an encounter like this in his two decades skiing. And many skiers would agree—this is rare.

Footage of the near collision shows a black bear running from one side of the slope to the other while O’Neal comes around a corner. His son was skiing in front of him and didn’t see the bear at all. Thankfully, O’Neal and the bear didn’t collide, and it seems the bear wasn’t interested in starting any trouble; it just wanted to get outta there.
O’Neal said in his Fox 31 interview that his son was waiting for him at the bottom, wondering where he was. When O’Neal told his son that he got delayed and nearly pummeled by a bear, his son was in disbelief. (Good thing there’s video evidence!)
