Rare Footage Shows Snow Leopard AND Himalayan Brown Bear

What’s rarer than spotting a wild snow leopard? How about spotting a wild snow leopard and a Himalayan brown bear in the same frame? Of course, this could only happen in the Himalayas.

Amir Jaspa is the wildlife photographer who captured the video and shared it to Instagram, calling it a “rare moment.” The footage shows a snow leopard skirting the edge of a cliff. It paces and keeps a weary eye on the brown bear. The bear seems to know the leopard is in the vicinity, but its behavior suggests it doesn’t know exactly where (likely thanks to the leopard’s superb camouflage).

The two predators ultimately steer clear of each other. Another wildlife photographer tagged in the video who claims to have been there says in a comment reply that the bear could smell the leopard but couldn’t see it. Both animals hid themselves for a while and then went on their separate ways.
