Photos of Grumpy Owls Will Make You Smile

Wildlife photography can inspire people or make them think, and it can also make them feel something. In some cases, it can make people feel sad. In others, it can make them smile—or even make them laugh. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) recently shared a post on Instagram compiling several photos of grumpy owls by different wildlife photographers. The owls’ faces are so intense while somehow also being cute that it’s sure to leave you smiling (or scared).

The impetus behind TNC’s post is encouraging people to vote, but the owls steal the show with their scowls. The post reads:

“Legal team: You can’t force people into supporting nature.
Me: Got it. I can’t. But owls can.”

The owls really do look serious, like they’re watching you even when you sleep. The carousel post includes six owl photos, and each one will convince you that owls don’t mess around.
