New Thriller Series ‘The Last Frontier’ Could Only Happen in Alaska

Debuting today on Apple TV+, “The Last Frontier” is a thrilling drama set in the harsh and expansive landscape of Alaska. The series follows U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick (Jason Clarke) as he and his team try to track down a wild group of high-risk criminals, including one mastermind who will learn to get under Remnick’s skin. The criminals escape when their prison-transport plane crashes somewhere in Alaska’s remote wilderness—under very suspect circumstances, I might add.

Right off the bat, Alaska becomes a sort of character in the series, contributing significantly to the plot and forcing some of the shocking twists and turns the series takes during its 10 episodes. When Sydney Scofield (Haley Bennett), a CIA operative, tries to boss Remnick around, telling him to set up a perimeter, he responds with a chuckle and the line: “This is Alaska. There is no perimeter.

Clarke and Bennett offer fantastic performances, alongside cast members Dominic Cooper, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard. (Cooper is so good in his role that I’d be scared to meet him in real life.)

Produced by Clarke, Jon Bokenkamp, Richard D’Ovidio, Laura Benson, Glenn Kessler, Albert Kim, and Sam Hargrave, the series premiered globally on Apple TV+ today, with the first two episodes now available. New episodes will follow every Friday through December 5, 2025.

I had the privilege of previewing this series in full, and it certainly kept me guessing until the very end. (You might think you know how this is going to go, but I assure you, you don’t.) There are facets to Remnick that come out as things get really intense, and his personal journey becomes the viewer’s as he learns that even in remote Alaska, secrets aren’t safe.
