Back in May 2015, a mushroom hunter was searching for fungi in northern Illinois. He was recording a video, showing his perspective as he walked through the forest, pointing out and identifying various mushrooms. As he was showing some mushrooms growing on a log, suddenly, there was a loud, long howl. It didn’t sound like the source of the noise was very far away. The startled mushroom hunter stood there, still recording, until the weird, nine-second noise ceased. Then, he simply said, “I think it’s time to go.” And he left.
The man, who runs the YouTube channel @Tomorrowsgarden shared the video online, and it went viral. He wrote in his video’s description: “May 9th, 2015 – I got out alive.” His video got picked up on an episode of The Proof is Out There, which surmised that the noise might have been a Bigfoot vocalization.
A decade later, the video is still being shared on social media channels, and every time it’s shared, people try to guess what on Earth made that sound. Some people write off the Bigfoot theory, saying it was likely a moose making the terrifying noise.
