Officials found a 27-year-old woman from Georgia who went missing several weeks ago while camping solo. The solo camper, Tiffany Slaton, was found alive and mostly well, except for being dehydrated, and her family is elated. When a blizzard hit, Slaton found shelter near Lake Edison in Fresno County, California and hunkered down there. Lake Edison is in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, near the Pacific Crest Trail.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reports that Slaton found an unlocked cabin belonging to the Vermilion Valley Resort and sought shelter there. Slaton’s family hadn’t heard from her since April 20th, and because snow blocked all access roads to the property, the cabin owner didn’t discover Slaton until Wednesday, after snow plows cleared the way.

The owner says he intentionally left the cabin unlocked in case someone needed shelter, and this thoughtful gesture likely saved Slaton’s life. There is currently no information from Slaton’s point of view, and it will be very interesting to hear her side of the story.
