Massive Whale Sneaks up Behind Diver, Nearly Tail Smacks Him

Timo Dersch was free diving with orcas off the coast of Norway when a humpback whale managed to sneak up behind him. The whale came so close that its tail nearly smacked Dersch in the head. Another diver was there filming the surreal moment, which ended up going viral on social media.

“We were freediving with @orcanorway.info and the incredible @the.orca.whisperer and some gentle giants were sneaking up on me,” Dersch wrote in his Instagram post sharing a video of the moment. “Watch till the end!”

It’s incredible to think that an animal so large could “sneak” in any capacity, but this really goes to show whose world we’re really in when humans go diving in the ocean.
