A woman and her family set up their camping tent only to have another camper set up right in front of them a few hours later . . . even though there was plenty of space on either side. She took to TikTok to ask about camping etiquette, saying: “It’s our second time camping, so I don’t know the ‘rules.’ Is it okay or not okay to set up the tent right in front of someone else’s tent?” Her video reveals two tents set up within feet of each other on a wide green area. The back tent is unfortunately hers.
The woman, who goes by @nishaheallmy / Your Basic Mom Friend on TikTok, adds in her caption that her group was there first. Unfortunately, the newcomers had set up camp between her tent and the stunning coastal view, not only blocking their view but also totally invading their space.
“We were here a couple of hours before them, too. They didn’t ask but we weren’t sure if we could say anything. I was confused why they chose to set up right in front of our tent,” @nishaheallmy explains. Response is mixed. Some people say the family should have claimed the spot with the better view in the first place if they didn’t want to lose it. Many others point out that the second group was being pretty rude by setting up so close when there is plenty of space elsewhere.
In my opinion, the second group made a camping etiquette faux pas, and the first group had every right to be upset. If the area had been packed, that’d be a different story, but it wasn’t packed, so why put your tent so close to someone else’s?
