Homeowner Captures Lightning Strikes From New Mexico Storm

A woman in New Mexico peeked outside after hearing thunder and started filming a storm, ultimately capturing stunning footage of lightning strikes behind her home. After Kacie Henke slowed her footage down to 0.1x speed, she realized what she’d captured and posted it to Instagram. Tens of thousands of people have liked her video, which shows streaks of lightning flashing across a purple sky.

Henke is a realtor in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and she says she was heading outside to get her pool ready for the storm when she started filming the lightning. While it didn’t look like much more than some quick flashes of light in realtime, when Henke slowed the footage down as much as her device would allow, it became clear that she’d captured something special.
