Two hikers ended up in a perilous situation while hiking the Lost Coast Trail in northern California. One of the hikers fell and came to rest about 60 feet up from the sea on the remote cliffside. In fact, both hikers were trapped in place, unable to move because of the steep, unstable ground. A rescue party spanning six different agencies dispatched to help the hikers before they lost footing and fell from the cliff. Thankfully, both hikers were rescued from the Lost Coast with minor injuries, and it seems they were indeed lost.

Chief Nick Pape of Shelter Cove Fire told local news that there was no established trail where the hikers were before one of them fell. They were not on the Lost Coast Trail, according to Pape, but he says the hikers might have accidentally taken a game trail thinking it was part of the main trail.
With the help of members of the rescue team on jet skis, in the water, and in a helicopter, the two hikers made it out alive. One of them had a dislocated shoulder. Local KMUD News suggests the rescue cost “millions of dollars in specialized equipment and extensive training.”
