Hiker Encounters Little Bobcat With a Big Catch on Trail (Video)

A hiker in Fryman Canyon just outside of Los Angeles, California came across a young bobcat on the trail with a big catch in its mouth. The hiker, Julia Fong, tried to back up and let the bobcat pass, but the animal seemed to want to follow her. At one point she jokes: I think it thought I was its mom (and then she flashes her leopard-print shorts).

“The cat distribution system is WILD,” Fong jokes in her Instagram post sharing the video. (The “cat distribution system” refers to the idea that cats seem to just magically appear in some people’s lives.)

Fong’s banter during the video, which shows the small wild cat with lunch (possibly a squirrel) in its mouth, is part of the reason it’s so popular. She does not seem afraid of the animal, but she clearly wants to give it space . . . and then it just keeps walking toward her, its tail wagging furiously.

The comments section is funny, too.

“He’s like ‘I know this is awkward but we’re actually traveling in the same direction,’” wrote one person.

“I recommend that you go to settings, click on ‘cat distribution’ settings and set it to beginner,” joked another.
