“This is one of the weirder things I’ve come across,” writes Lyndon’s Wild Photos in an Instagram post. “A wild coyote frozen in time on the Alberta prairies . . . What do you think happened here?” Lyndon is a wildlife and nature photographer in Alberta, Canada, but she’s never seen anything like the frozen coyote she recently came across on the side of the road.

Lyndon hypothesizes that the coyote was hit by a car, froze quickly due to temperatures hovering around -25°C (-13°F), and then got moved to the side of the road. She thinks someone must have leaned it up against the sign post.
Many people in the video’s comment section agree with her assessment, with a couple of them suggesting a snow plow could have pushed the animal up off the road. Some folks claim to have seen similar roadk*ll situations with other animals, such as a deer and a fox. One man suggests a heart attack could have been the coyote’s cause of death.
