Deer Blocks Hiker’s Path, Then He Sees a Grizzly Bear (Video)

A viral social-media video documents the lead up before a man realized there was a grizzly bear in the vicinity. The footage shows a deer holding its ground on the trail in front of the man, who was hiking in Glacier National Park. The man, who goes by callsignwander on Instagram, needed to get by the deer to finish his descent after hiking through a hail storm. The deer seemed equally stubborn about not moving out of the way. Turns out, the deer didn’t want to go backward because there was a grizzly a little further down the trail.

“That deer gave me a look like, ‘You should turn around, man.’ I didn’t. Then I saw why. Lol,” wrote callsignwander in his Instagram post.

The video has over 1.6 million views, but some commenters came for the bear, and they were disappointed. (It just shows the deer refusing to move and doing funny things.) The man explains in his three-part video series that he wasn’t recording when he spotted the grizzly bear crossing the trail after his bizarre encounter with the deer.
