Curious River Otters Check out a Trail Cam in Virginia (Video)

At the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Woodbridge, Virginia, some river otters discovered a trail cam and came to check it out. One of the river otters slid up to the camera across the snow on its belly, coming so close it looks like it booped the camera with its nose.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) shared the video on its Instagram page this week, and many thousands of people liked it. Of the three river otters, one had absolutely no qualms about checking out the unknown object.

“River otters are very social animals and are typically found in groups rather than alone. Body language is one way otters can communicate,” wrote USFWS in its Instagram post sharing the trail-cam footage. “As you can see, the two in the back are being more cautious and waiting to see how the one in the front reacts to the trail camera at Occoquan Bay NWR in VA.”
