Check out Alex Honnold’s Home Climbing Gym (Video)

When Alex Honnold isn’t out climbing sheer cliff faces, he’s working out in his home climbing gym. WHOOP posted a sneak peek at Honnold’s setup a couple of days ago, and it’s pretty cool to see what a world-class rock climber like Honnold does at home to train for his larger-than-life adventures.

In the video, Honnold walks through his typical home gym workout routine. He says he often starts with a game of ping pong to warm up. Next, he heads over to the “easy” section of his spray wall for a climbing-specific warm up, which he admits he actually created for his two-year-old daughter. Then, Honnold says he moves over to “the boards,” which he can adjust to different angles depending on what he’s training to do in the real world.

Honnold also uses training tools like a campus board and hangboards, which help him strengthen his fingers, hands, and arms. Finally, he says he often finishes up with some weights, though he admits he’s not huge into weight lifting.

Another interesting aspect of the home gym is that Honnold says he often opens it up to friends, so he has some company while he’s training.
