Camping is ‘Inflation Proof’ and More Insights From The Dyrt’s 2025 Report


Camping just might be an inflation-proof activity, at least according to The Dyrt’s 2025 Camping Report. The annual report highlights trends from the past 12 months in the camping community, and trends suggest that in 2024, four out of five campers either went on the same number of camping trips as previous years or they went on even more camping trips, despite economic inflation.

“While some campers saved money by camping less, others increasingly turned to camping as a more affordable travel option,” wrote Sarah Smith, The Dyrt’s founder, in the report. “To see that 80% of campers either camped more or the same amount shows how resilient our industry and community really are!”

The Dyrt is a camping app that lists public and private campgrounds, RV parks, and free camping locations in the United States. Its annual camping report presented by Toyota Trucks compiles statistics and offers interesting insights into the previous year’s camping landscape.

Here are some additional insights from the 2025 edition:

  • 81.1 million Americans went camping last year, including 5.8 people who went for the first time.
  • Cancellations and no-shows at campgrounds dropped by 16.7%, meaning there were fewer sites left empty and unused. (Yay!)
  • More than half of respondents (56.1%) said they had a difficult time reserving campsites due to campgrounds being full.
  • Fewer properties raised their rates in 2024 compared to 2023 (38.9% versus 45.3%).
