See the Harvest Moon Rise Over Pumpkin Rock (Photos)

Some lucky hikers experienced the most Halloween hike ever as they trekked to Pumpkin Rock near Norco, California as the massive Harvest Moon rose in the distance. A local photographer got some million-dollar shots of the full moon behind the pumpkin-painted boulder.

According to lahikes, locals nicknamed the boulder “pumpkin rock” after someone anonymously painted it to look like a jack-o-lantern in 1994. Since then, locals give the boulder a fresh coat of paint every year to keep it looking fresh. Every October, the rock is a fun destination to hike to for folks in Norco and the surrounding areas.

“October’s huge moon rising over Norco’s iconic hike, The Pumpkin Rock,” wrote lahikes in the Instagram post sharing a series of photos with the orange boulder and the full moon. “A short, 1.6 mile loop hike which climbs Quail Hill, can be seen from miles away in the horse town of Norco, CA.”

Although the Harvest Moon has come and gone, you can watch live-streamed footage of it here.
