Grand Canyon National Park announced rangers have recovered the body of a person who drove his or her vehicle over the rim of the canyon near the South Kaibab Trailhead. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, and there is no information about the victim. The press release infers this was a suicide and not an accident.

“On Sept. 7, at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a vehicle with a single occupant that had gone over the rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead,” wrote Grand Canyon personnel in a press release dated yesterday. “Park rangers responded immediately and recovered the body, which was located about 300 feet below the rim. It was transported to the rim by helicopter and then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
