Many people are tired of the summer heat by late August. And if you’re ready for winter, then this video of a Canada lynx in a snowy forest might help you cool down. The clip shows a rare animal encounter that gave one person a close-up look at the elusive cat.

Photographer Jean-Christophe Lemay captured the images while hiking in Quebec.
The video, which appears to have been taken in winter, shows Lemay with a Canada lynx just over his shoulder. It then cuts to shots of a pair of lynxes, followed by several still images of the animal.
“I still get shivers looking at the footage and photos to be honest,” wrote Lemay on his post. “Hands down one of the best experiences of my life.”
More About the Canada Lynx
In the U.S., the Endangered Species Act protects the Canada lynx. The federal government currently lists them as “threatened.” The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it works with landowners to help protect the animal.
The animal can only be found in cooler climates and boreal forests. Those are areas of high northern latitude with thick pine trees. The Canada lynx’s terrain includes short summers and long freezing winters. In the U.S., this basically includes parts of northern Maine, Montana, Idaho, and parts of Colorado. They can also be found in far northern Michigan and Minnesota.
Habitat destruction is the biggest issue for the creature, especially in areas where there is timber harvesting and heavy recreation.
At 15 to 30 pounds, Canada lynx can grow to about three and a half feet long. This makes the animal more similar to bobcats than they are to mountain lions or other feline-related animals. The lynx is known for its unique triangular ears. Additionally, their large paws work almost like snowshoes to make their way through snowy terrain.
