Dogs Have ‘Ruff’ Time, Require Rescue From Colorado 14er

It took seven hours and some special harnesses, but the Chaffee County Search and Rescue North team succeeded in a unique rescue of some dogs that couldn’t quite make it up Mount Princeton—a Colorado 14er. The team of volunteers carried the dogs down the mountain and back to flat ground in canine carry harnesses.

“Last night we got a call for some pups who were having a ‘ruff’ time on Mt Princeton,” quipped Chaffee County Search and Rescue North. “While pet rescues are not normal protocol for Search and Rescue teams, our team definitely has some pet lovers who were ready to jump into action! At 3:45 pm we [received] notice of assistance needed, and we were able to send a couple teams to assist in carrying down the pups. All teams and doggos were out of the field 7 hours later.”

A “14er” refers to a peak that’s at least 14,000 feet above sea level. Most 14ers occur in the western half of the United States, especially in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.
