Helicopter Rescues Stranded Hikers at Remote Beach (Video)

Two people became stranded after the rising tide trapped them on a remote beach in California’s Point Reyes National Seashore. The stranded hikers required a dramatic long-line rescue from the beach, since there were so safe paths out by land or sea.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident, sharing a video of the long-line rescue. The footage shows a Tactical Flight Officer/EMT clip himself onto a long line and then dangle from the Henry-1 helicopter as it maneuvered him onto the beach. He then clips both hikers into “hot seat” rescue devices. Finally, the helicopter lifts all three of them up and out. The EMT pats one of the hikers on the back as they hang from the line. At one point, he asks if she’s okay.

“Thanks to the seamless teamwork between Henry-1 and Marin County Fire, both hikers were safely rescued with no injuries reported,” wrote the sheriff’s office. “A great example of multi-agency coordination and skilled execution!”
