A hiker survived a 30-foot fall in a popular rock-climbing area in California, thanks to a paramedic crew and a helicopter. The incident happened on Sunday. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the man was hiking in a “rugged and remote section” of the Stoney Point rock-climbing area just outside of Los Angeles when he fell. An LAFD helicopter extracted the injured hiker using a cable and harness.

“At 7:09PM on Sunday, May 25, 2025, LAFD ground and air resources were deployed to assess and extricate an injured adult male hiker who reportedly fell approximately 30 feet,” LAFD wrote in a Facebook post sharing the incident. “An LAFD helicopter lowered a flight paramedic via cable and harness to treat and prepare the patient for a hoist rescue back into the hovering helicopter—paramedics continued in-flight care during direct helicopter transport to a regional trauma center.”
Although LAFD doesn’t expand on the man’s injuries or current condition, the department does make it clear that the man survived.
