Viral Video Shows Man’s First Grizzly Bear Encounter in Banff

A viral video shows how a man handled his first grizzly-bear encounter in Banff National Park. The man, who goes by Isaac on TikTok, was on a hiking trail in the park when he suddenly came upon a grizzly walking toward him on the same path. Isaac backed up slowly, his bear spray at the ready. At one point, he also films a quick clip of the bear leisurely walking on the hiking path toward him. In the video, Isaac’s voice remains tense but calm as he talks himself through what he knows he needs to do. (For instance, he reminds himself not to run.)

“First grizzly encounter! Hiking up a trail in Banff and this fella started wandering towards me,” Isaac wrote in his viral TikTok post. “Followed me for about 5 minutes until he stopped at a stream.”

Thankfully, this bear was just passing through, and Isaac didn’t do anything that would make the bear think he was prey (like run or scream). He was carrying bear spray, and he spoke out loud calmly to identify himself as a human.

First grizzly encounter! Hiking up a trail in Banff and this fella started wandering towards me. Followed me for about 5 minutes until he stopped at a stream. Safe to say, a few bricks were shat.
