Robert Scott and his young son came across an abandoned house, and it ended up prompting a tough life lesson. The pair was exploring the house when they found a trapped, dying coyote in the cellar. Scott explains in an Instagram post sharing the story that he tried to make the coyote more comfortable while wildlife officials were on their way to help.

“While exploring an abandoned house with my son, we came across a trapped coyote in the cellar. He was still breathing. He may have been there for at least a couple of days,” Scott wrote in the post. “We could’ve just left him but I wanted to at least make his last moments a bit more peaceful for him and explain life and death to my son. I made sure my son was safe before explaining to him what the plan of rescue was. Then we made him comfortable the best we could.”
Scott freed the coyote from the rocks trapping it, transported it outside, and gave it some water. He said in a comment reply on his post that he doesn’t know if the animal ultimately survived, but he had plans to try to find out. Perhaps he’ll provide an update when he does.
