Anesthesiologist Tried to Kill His Wife on Hawaii Hiking Trail

Officers from the Honolulu Police Department arrested Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist, earlier this week after he allegedly attempted to kill his wife while they were hiking in Hawaii. Konig reportedly invited his wife to take a selfie with him near a ledge. She felt uneasy about his behavior and walked away from the drop off. He then pushed his wife into the bushes and started beating her with a rock, leaving her in critical condition. Other hikers then came onto the scene and called for help. Konig fled, and officers later tracked him down and arrested him.

The Konigs, who live on Maui, were hiking were on Oahu’s Pali Puka Trail on Monday when the alleged attack took place. After pushing his wife into the bushes and beating her head and face with a rock, Konig pulled out two syringes filled with liquid and tried to poke her with them.

Arielle Konig, 36, remains hospitalized as of today with “lacerations and a broken thumb,” according to Trib Live. The couple has two young children.
