Viral Photos Show Adorable Echidnas in the Snow

Echidnas are hearty, adaptable little creatures native to Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. Their habitats include everything from deserts to forests—including the mountainous, snowy regions of the Australian continent, although most people don’t associate these creatures with snow. That’s one reason why some brilliant photos of echidnas in the snow from Charles Davis have gone viral.

“Echidnas are creatures of will, they travel where they want, when they want, with only their little noses to guide them,” wrote Davis, an Australian wildlife photographer in his Instagram post sharing the photos. “To see one on the highest peaks of the Australian [continent] might seem odd at first, but they do not know it’s an odd place to be, they just going about their little adventure ball lives. Over the years I’ve photographed many a snow echidna, these are some of favourites.”

Davis’s photos are just delightful. The first in his series shows an echidna looking proud as it gazes up a snowy slope.
