‘Choco-holic’ Possum Eats Entire Costco Cake

A possum in Nebraska learned the hard way that a human’s diet doesn’t always work out well for wildlife after it ate an entire chocolate cake from Costco. (For the record, none of us humans would be feeling good either if we’d eaten an entire chocolate cake from Costco.) Nebraska Wildlife Rehab shared the hilariously cringy story in a Facebook post, saying: “Sometimes a sweet tooth just can’t wait until Valentine’s Day!”

The post also reads: “This Virginia opossum was admitted today after reportedly devouring an ENTIRE Costco chocolate cake. With some time in rehab (and a diet reset), this choco-holic should be stabilized enough to return to the wild but until then, she is definitely a little cranky about our strict ‘zero chocolate’ policy! Same, opossum . . . same.”

After admission to the rehab center, the possum was reportedly “panting a lot,” but it was “still mobile and alert.” We don’t know how the animal accessed the cake, but it’s possible the humans involved learned a lesson as well (guard thy cake).
