WATCH: Young Deer Frolic in a Field in Maine

Two young deer recently had a delightful frolic in a field in Maine. Seth Raven of Waldo, Maine captured the scene on his trail camera. The footage is a great example of how useful trail cams can be for glimpsing wildlife in moments they don’t think humans are watching.

In this case, when they think they’re alone, the two deer chase each other around an open field like puppies. Even their little white tails appear to wag as they have fun together. As you watch them, you might wonder if they’d play catch with you if you were there to throw a ball.

It’s not all fun and games, of course. As the deer play, they’re practicing key skills and avoidance maneuvers that they’ll be able to use next time a predator is chasing them.
