Bear Walks Along Crowded Shoreline, Takes a Dip in the Lake

A large black bear recently walked along a crowded shoreline in South Lake Tahoe, California, then took a dip in the lake. The bear didn’t seem interested in the hoards of people recreating along this popular Lake Tahoe beach, and many folks seemed too stunned by the bear’s nonchalant presence to bother trying to get away as the animal ambled through.

Lisa Enos Martin shared her video of the bear at the beach with local news station KCRA 3, saying the footage was from August 31. Several people got footage of the bear as it swam and walked along the water’s edge near the Boathouse on the Pier.

Lake Tahoe is in northern California along the California/Nevada border. It’s home to black bears, some of which have brown fur like this one does. (Brown bears like grizzlies no longer live in California, although they did historically.)

It’s remarkable that everyone seems so calm and content to watch the bear walk by. No one appears to be panicking. As far as we know, after the bear’s stroll and swim, it and all the humans moved on with their day.
