If you go on enough outdoor adventures, you’re bound to have some cool wildlife encounters. For one woman, a trip to the Canadian Arctic ended up being one of her favorite travel memories yet. While she was sea kayaking with a group, some friendly belugas came up and bumped her kayak. Her joy is absolutely infectious.
Laura Capra is a wildlife guide Natural Habitat Adventures, but this month, she had her own experience on a summer trip to the Canadian Arctic. While sea kayaking, Capra and her group got to see some beautiful beluga whales up close and personal. It seems a couple of them wanted to play. As the belugas bump Capra’s kayak, she laughs and squeals with delight.
“Core memories can be made after 50,” Capra said. “You never really leave a place you love. A part of it you take with you, leaving a part of you behind. Churchill has a piece of me . . . I left a lot of laughter up on the shores of the Hudson Bay.”
In a comment on Natural Habitat Adventures’ Facebook post sharing the video, Capra commented: “It was easily top 3 experiences of my life!!!!”

Belugas are unique white whales that live in the Arctic Ocean. They live, hunt, and migrate together in groups called pods. Belugas have a squishy forehead called a melon that helps them echolocate. Belugas make a variety of sounds, like chirps, clicks, and whistles, which they use to communicate with each other.
